4,316 New Students Join UPM for 2025/2026 Academic Session

SERDANG, 5 Oct – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) continues to cement its reputation as a premier destination for higher education, welcoming 4,316 new students for the 2025/2026 academic session. The intake reinforces UPM’s role as a national leader in agriculture and food security, while offering one of the best campus learning and living experiences in the country.

Of the total, 4,190 students will enrol at the main campus in Serdang, and 126 at UPM Sarawak. This represents an increase from last year’s figure of 4,214 students, reflecting growing confidence in UPM’s academic excellence.

This year’s cohort comprises 1,518 male and 2,798 female students, compared with 1,770 males and 2,444 females in the previous intake. Notably, 1,319 students have chosen Agrobio and agriculture-related fields, a slight rise from 1,300 last year.

UPM offers a range of agriculture-focused bachelor’s degree programmes, including the Bachelor of Agricultural Science with Honours, Bachelor of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering with Honours, Bachelor of Food Science and Technology with Honours, and Bachelor of Biotechnology with Honours. To keep pace with market demand, UPM has also introduced new programmes such as the Bachelor of Applied Finance with Honours, under the School of Business and Economics (SBE).

The university also stands out as a preferred choice for national athletes, attracting 74 sportsmen and sportswomen who have represented Malaysia in international competitions such as rugby, archery, gymnastics and hockey. Among them are national rhythmic gymnast Lai Yun Jo, now pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Science with Honours; archer Nurul Ain Fitri Ramli, who competed at the Asian QCT in Paris 2024 and is enrolled in the Bachelor of Civil Engineering with Honours; and national hockey player Naaveennash Panicker, who represented Malaysia at the Junior Asia Cup and has been accepted into the Bachelor of Communication with Honours. Additionally, members of the National Rugby Project team are furthering their studies, with many pursuing the Bachelor of Education (Physical Education) programme.

In line with the government’s Madani agenda, UPM is also ensuring inclusive access to higher education, offering places to 1,687 students from B40 families, nine Orang Asli students and 10 students with disabilities (OKU).

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Dato’ Prof. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, said the intake reflects the university’s enduring appeal among the younger generation.

“At UPM, we are committed to providing the best academic and campus experience in line with the university’s True North aspirations. Our students will not only benefit from a world-class education, but also receive guidance to become holistic graduates ready to contribute to national food security and global community development,” he said.

The new students will participate in Minggu Perkasa Putra (MPP) from 6 to 12 October 2025, featuring leadership, cultural and character-building activities. Highlights include the Student Leaders’ Dialogue with the Minister of National Unity, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, on 10 October, and the New Students’ Pledge Ceremony on 12 October, officiated by the Vice-Chancellor.

With this intake, UPM reaffirms its mission to nurture competitive, inclusive graduates who will go on to become future leaders in their respective fields.
